WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
THEMATIC ASSESSMENT IN ICT
I always have goosebumps whenever I am watching a documentary featuring women. A camera walking down a hall showing portraits of women who have different achievements and contributions which helped humanity inspires me to take higher risks and be braver. As the camera walked its way, the world is more protected. At that time, gender inequality was checkmated by queens. Gender inequality died the death it deserved, giving more space to women empowerment.
Women have gone through a lot in a male-dominated world. History books are living evidence of how women lived their life being oppressed and underestimated even our culture if only given the voice will narrate how women crawled to be at their own destinations. A lot of them were deprived of things that they deserve such as education, job opportunities, and rights. They were discriminated. They were never allowed to raise their voice and show their capabilities as a woman. Shackled as they tried to escape the confines of the traditional familial structure. They battled gender inequality, exerted efforts on issues which they are needed, and most importantly, they used their voice despite the danger that is waiting for them. Gender inequality may still be an issue right now, but it cannot be denied that their efforts paid off and life-long effects are being felt.
Ever since, women showed their ability to adapt in different fields such as medicine, science, technology, mathematics, leadership, and in the military. Their contributions embarked that they are capable. Especially during this pandemic, a lot of them proved that they are credible. Vice President Leni Robredo, an empowered woman, only has limited resources: however, it did not hinder her to lend a hand to thousands of Filipinos. Her story is only a portion of many women who are more than enough to lead and have their voices be heard. Juanas added more color to our nation, they widen their range for us to progress.
Every woman, every Juana, every Biguena pursued the passion that is close to their hearts. Soon they noticed that their own crowns kept following their own heads—their own passion and purpose. There is a reason why the queen chess piece has the most powerful moves to protect the king. Women's wit is stronger than any insult, always remember that a queen can build her own castle from the rocks they throw at her. Every woman shines not because of praises and adoration, they shine because their crowns cannot be left unnoticed. As society labeled women to be weak, they must continue to exceed and go beyond the expectations set upon them. They say women are nothing, that's why they become anything. You are a woman, keep your head high, and continue to make yourself proud.
I am ALTHEA MAE RECLUSADO, a woman. However, I never find myself interested in the roles that society set for a woman such as cooking, and other household chores, none of these things appeal to me. I do not conform to anything that is found practical in the mind of the ever-growing patriarchal society. I find my comfort in being politically aware, and studying hard to help me pursue my chosen career in the future. Writing this essay may not be the ideal medium for me to communicate my ideas, but it is something that a high school student can do. With true genuineness I have promoted feminism, it is not a cause I have simply pursued because female empowerment is 'in vogue'. Specifically, I am drawn to deconstructing the wrong ideologies and culture that keep hindering a woman like me to show her full potential. Women empowerment for me, is not an option, rather a choice.
